Schotten, formerly with the Boston Symphony and principal with the Houston Symphony, was until his retirement Professor at University of Michigan. Israeli-born Yizhak Schotten has an illustrious musical career spanning several continents. Discovered and brought to the US by William Primrose, he studied with that renowned violist and later with Lillian Fuchs.

"Yizhak Schotten's teacher and mentor, William Primrose, was honored in the way that Schotten's playing recalled the older artist's genius," wrote Paul Hume of the Washington Post.
