According to Stereo Review, Roger Bobo is "the Heifetz of the Tuba." (Stereo Review). He is probably the world's best-known and most respected tuba player. He was principal tuba with the Concertgebouw Orchestra, then the Los Angeles Philharmonic for 25 years. He then lived in Italy where he taught at Fiesole Scuola di Musica and in Switzerland teaching at the Conservatoire de Lausanne. After that he taught in Japan and Mexico.
