What could be more intriguing than the idea of a normal-sized female musician making a solo career on a huge instrument weighing 15 pounds and containing over 18 feet of tubing? Contrabassoonist Sue Nigro, a native of the south side of Chicago, is doing exactly this - making a name for herself as the first solo artist on this instrument in the USA.
During the past several years, she has played numerous solo recitals, made solo appearances with many Chicago-area orchestras and bands, premiered over a dozen new works and has been listed on the Artists Rosters in many states. She founded the Chicago Bassoon Quartet and has written books including "Laffs from the Bottom of the Pit." She is also listed in the 14th Edition (1994) of International Who's Who in Music and holds memberships in Intertel and Mensa.
"Nigro is a veritable Paganini of the contrabassoon. A fun disc!", Fanfare.
