Melvin Warner, professor Emeritus of Clarinet and Chamber Music at Northern Illinois University, was associate principal clarinet with the St. Louis Symphony and, for many years, served as guest principal clarinet with the San Diego Symphony. Warner made his solo debut with the Oakland Symphony when he was 15. Active as a chamber musician, Warner was a founder of the Pacific Woodwind Quintet and the Quintetto da Camera, which won first place in the prestigious Coleman Chamber Auditions.
“In Smith’s and Martino’s unaccompanied pieces, Warner is an artist … in his element – fluid, stylish, and in complete command of the music’s considerable technical difficulties, including frequent, large shifts in register.” Fanfare Magazine
