John Mack is widely recognized as one of the foremost players of his instrument. He was principal oboist with the Cleveland Orchestra for 36 years. His playing featured variety and richness of tone and unfailing beauty of phrasing. He studied with Marcel Tabuteau at the Curtis Institute and with Bruno Labate and Harold Gomberg at the Julliard School of Music. He performed in the Casals Festival in France and the Marlboro Festival in Vermont and was a featured soloist and lecturer at numerous International Double Reed Society conventions for many years since 1975. Many of his students are principal oboists with major symphony orchestras.
