Anton Reicha (1770-1836) was one of the most influential and respected composers of the period. A friend of Beethoven and Haydn, he was the counterpoint professor at the Paris Conservatory and his students included Liszt, Berlioz, Adam, Gounod, and Franck. One of the first composers to write for woodwind quintet, he wrote and published 24 Quintets, recorded by the stellar Westwood Wind Quintet. The Westwood Wind Quintet, established in 1959, has performed more than 2000 concerts and recorded more than 27 albums. The Reicha Quintets have been performed on the group's concerts for more than 50 years.
