The Westwood Wind Quintet was founded in 1959 and performed actively for over 60 years, during which time it gave over 3,000 concerts and recorded more than 28 albums. There were only a few personnel changes, with oboist Peter Christ and clarinetist David Atkins continuing throughout. This CD, made from recordings in 1971 and 1981, represents two incarnations of the ensemble. Reviewing a concert in the mid-1980's, critic Daniel Carriaga wrote in the LA Times, "An accumulation of instrumental polish and important repertory over a long period has resulted in a treasurable sense of ensemble and musical solidity."

Personnel on this CD: Klughardt and Berio: John Barcellona, flute; Peter Christ, oboe; David Atkins, clarinet; Kenneth Meyer, bassoon; Calvin Smith, horn. Other works: Gretel Shanley, flute; Peter Christ, oboe; David Atkins, clarinet; Robert Henderson, horn; Kay Brightman, bassoon.

"one of the finest ensembles of its kind" American Record Guide

"I can't say enough about this group. [The Westwood Wind Quintet] has established itself as one of the premiere interpreters of woodwind music, and this CD certainly bears this out." Music Web.
