When the American Brass Quintet gave its first public performance more than 40 years ago, brass chamber music was relatively unknown to concert audiences. That modest debut on Dec. 11, 1960, marked the beginning of an international concert career for the ensemble that includes performances in Europe, Cantral and South America, the Middle East, Asia, Australia and all 50 of the United States; a discography of over forty-five recordings; the premieres of over 100 new works for brass; and the inspiration to a whole new generation of brass quintets worldwide.
American Brass Quintet members are Raymond Mase, trumpet; Kevin Cobb, trumpet; David Wakefield, horn; Michael Powell, trombone; and John D. Rojak, trombone.
Newsweek Magazine called the quintet "the high priests of brass."
